 Daily Gratitude: It seems there’s been a lot about fear in these daily posts and I don’t mind that. It’s an important topic and one we don’t often think objectively about or even think about at all. Most often we just play Thanksgiving Turkey and stuff it all down deep inside. That has adverse repercussions later in your life though. Or, we can be paralyzed by them. We can sit and worry (just another word for fear – there are so many) or feel anxious (same) and not do anything. For the past few days I’ve been spinning my wheels because I have two books I want to work on and one is tough but the other isn’t. I wasn’t getting anything done. So yesterday I decided that part of my problem was the mess of books (my “Writing Books”) that was all around me. There were piles of them and they weren’t neatly stacked. It was a mess. Fortunately I decided to do something and that was to clean them up and put them in their proper places. So i did. And you know what. Just that action allowed the decision about which book to work on was made. My mind was no longer cluttered when my space wasn’t but it was really the action I took that helped. I could have gone walking and the same thing probably would have happened but I haven’t been able to for those same few days. What can you get up and do when you’re worrying or feeling anxious or afraid? Make a plan ahead so that you don’t sit and worry because you don’t know what to do – the inevitable vicious circle.

I am grateful for those of you who will still be my friend after you read the things I reveal in my book. I knew it was a risk but decided to take it.

Daily Gratitude: Boy, it’s taken me 74 years to realize this. Fear has been a subject we’ve talked about several times. Yet, overcoming it is key that unlocks the pathways to happiness. So why is it so hard? Because it’s one of those things that gets ingrained in you as an infant, often even before birth. The fear of your parents can be passed from generation to generation. It seems unfair that we should have no choice in how much fear we experience and maybe it is unfair. It’s certainly not your fault. But it is your responsibility- to change that. As an adult, and as a human (blessed with a brain and thought process) you have the ability to change those ingrained beliefs, one of which is fear. Awareness is key though. You have to be aware that what you are feeling is fear and then you have to decide what to do- stay afraid or take some small incremental steps that can lead to conquering that fear. Small steps will get you there. Do something you really don’t want to do. Maybe you only do it in your mind to start with. But that’s ok because your mind doesn’t know the difference between visualization and reality. Really feel what it would be like to do one small thing. Maybe it’s just talking on a zoom call or saying hi to someone on the street. Ask yourself what the worst that can happen is. Then ask if it will kill you. If not, then you can do it. You may be uncomfortable but you’re not unsafe. Remember that.
I am grateful I am learning to “open my mouth” much more than I was ever willing to do before. I would never speak unless I was absolutely positive I was saying something true. Now I know I won’t die if what I say is not completely correct. I can be uncomfortable and not die.

Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: It has always interested me how words contain so much power and especially the little ones. You hear about “should” and “always” and “never”. In fact, you should never use and absolute (sorry I couldn’t resist). The little words, though, seem to have more power and slip by more often – maybe because they are small. This quote is a good one. You can “wish” all day long while you sit on your chair watching the day go by. That doesn’t get you anywhere. Your brain just thinks you’re happy daydreaming. It doesn’t know any different. Taking action (the “will” part of this) let’s the universe know you mean it and it will then start bringing things into alignment to make it happen. You know I’m very metaphysical and although there are many more laws, this is one of the bases of the Law of Attraction. Perhaps you’re sitting there mad because you’re injured or sick and you can’t take action toward your goal (you think). What good does it do to wish you could do something? No good at all. You just get more mopey because you can’t have what you want. Suppose, though, you found something small that might be enroute to achieving what you want, something tiny? Something you can do even in your condition? Then you can say “I will” and begin to take the action. I hated running. But I had had surgery on my knee and I wanted to play softball. Was I thinking “oh I wish I could walk 314 miles”? Heck no. I was thinking “I’m a catcher and I need to run to cover 1st base”. That’s what got me out the door and at that time it was just “I will keep at this until I can run to the end of the block without stopping”. That was a big ole 3/10 of a mile. But I wanted to play softball and I found a tiny little thing I could say “I will” to and then another etc. There are other little words like “try” and “have to” that we can discuss another time but this is a good lesson for today.
I am grateful I pulled out of the two fall races. Although I could “wish” i were doing them, I am taking action by getting more sleep, eating better and helping my back heal. That is action even if it’s a different kind of action.
