Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: I like this variation on the usual “when one door closes another one opens.” Sometimes it’s a window but this one takes it a step further. Everything is out there for us to have but it’s not just going to flow freely into our lives all the time. Sometimes it will but often we have to make the effort — at least some effort— before the flow begins. It’s like lava flowing down a mountain. It’s been sitting there for a long time but doesn’t start it’s downward journey until the volcano erupts. I wrote yesterday about how all the emotion I’d suppressed erupted like a volcano when i got Shingles (a skin eruption of a virus that’s been inside a long time). Turn the door knob — look for an event you want to go to; a new type of book you want to read; a different skill you want to learn; a meet up group, etc. Once you turn that doorknob (take action), watch out because that door will swing wide open for you to see another path.

I am grateful that so many people have gotten their books already. I hope “From Tipping Point to Turning Point” will be a doorknob for many.

Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: What form of self reflection do you use? Do you journal; do you have a “shutdown” time at night, do you talk to yourself; do you discuss things with a therapist or Eve a best friend? It’s so important that we not just go through our days but that we learn from them. How did you respond to something? Was it the best way you could or were there aspects of it that you’d like to change? If you don’t think about it, you won’t change it. I have a daily morning routine and if I don’t do it I feel really out of whack. I would love to have an evening shutdown routine too but i have not been able to establish one. It’s very strange but it’s also because I have other habits that interfere. So that tells me I’m not committed enough. That’s a form of self reflection and it’s good but it would be even better if i really analyzed what I could do to make it stick. That would be most valuable. So that is something I’ve learned about myself and am going to work on. I am probably trying to do too many things all at once instead of taking it bit by bit. That’s also something I’m learning about myself. See, just writing this has been a form of self reflection and you can do the same. Since it’s the weekend, take some time and think about what you learned about yourself this week. Take 3-5 minutes. That’s all. See what happens and how you like it. Go from there.
I am grateful so many people have received their books. Although it’s frightening to “take your clothes off” in front of all the people I know, I am grateful i found the courage to do it.

Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: What’s going through your mind right now? Stop and identify those thoughts. Now think how can you change them. Because you can change your thoughts. And you can do it in a split second – once you decide to change them. If you’re feeling tired, can you just think something like “this is just a feeling. I have much more energy than I think I do!” I’m not telling you to change that thought immediately into “wow I feel so energized I could run a marathon”. If you can do that big a change, great! But most of us have to start small and that’s ok. Remember that tiny acorn and what it becomes. You can become that mighty oak tree too. Start small and be consistent. What’s one thought you can use to replace any less than desirable one today? You can use that technique too in case you don’t want to reframe all the thoughts that are less than fulfilling. Come up with several replacements and write them down or put them on your phone. Then use them. See if anything happens.
I am grateful that I love to write!
