Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: This is simple. Not necessarily easy but simple. We’ve talked about this concept many times before. Can you stop saying “if i could do x,y, or z, then I’ll be happy. Or then I’ll be __ (fill in the blank)”? And then say “I know I can do x,y, or z!” Once you say that, then your next step is to figure out a strategy but that is so much easier. You may need to ask for help or learn another skill but it is doable and you know it. Having faith that the resources you need will show up will give you the confidence to continue no matter what appears to stand in the way. Remember, too, that what you really need may not be what you think you need. That is where you need the faith that things will turn out right for you no matter how it looks. Being half way there is the best beginning you could ask for.

Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: Have you ever taken some time to write down your fears? It’s hard and not pleasant but it’s probably one of the most beneficial things you can do. Why? Because awareness/recognition is the first step in overcoming them. Once you’ve identified a fear it’s much easier to come up with a strategy to work on it. Staring it in the face makes its seemingly monstrous size quickly sizzle as if you’re letting the air out of a balloon. When it’s shrunk, it’s so much easier to say “what the heck am i afraid of? I am bigger than this!” If you can sweep at least one fear aside, the feeling of joy you’ll have is amazing. Then you’ll be able to look at your list and face the next one. Before you know it, that list will be minuscule. I bet your happiness quotient will be much higher by then too. Test it out.

Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: Can you think back over your life and remember how you’ve felt when you’ve accomplished something you didn’t think you could do. Wasn’t it a great feeling, leaving you, perhaps for a second or two, thinking that just maybe you could do even more. I have felt that once and it’s better than almost anything I’ve ever felt. I wish I could say I’ve experienced it more than that once but at least it gave me a taste of what to shoot for. At my age you think more about regrets. I don’t have a lot of them because I have been able to achieve a lot. I have overcome many obstacles – but unlike many people, mine have been self- imposed obstacles mostly. They are the so-called inner demons or ghosts in the closet. In the past several years I’ve worked hard to confront these and have had large success. One thing I have held on to, though, is that a conquest over myself is so much sweeter if it also includes benefiting others. Let’s all keep aiming to conquer whatever’s in our path!
