Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: It has always interested me how words contain so much power and especially the little ones. You hear about “should” and “always” and “never”. In fact, you should never use and absolute (sorry I couldn’t resist). The little words, though, seem to have more power and slip by more often – maybe because they are small. This quote is a good one. You can “wish” all day long while you sit on your chair watching the day go by. That doesn’t get you anywhere. Your brain just thinks you’re happy daydreaming. It doesn’t know any different. Taking action (the “will” part of this) let’s the universe know you mean it and it will then start bringing things into alignment to make it happen. You know I’m very metaphysical and although there are many more laws, this is one of the bases of the Law of Attraction. Perhaps you’re sitting there mad because you’re injured or sick and you can’t take action toward your goal (you think). What good does it do to wish you could do something? No good at all. You just get more mopey because you can’t have what you want. Suppose, though, you found something small that might be enroute to achieving what you want, something tiny? Something you can do even in your condition? Then you can say “I will” and begin to take the action. I hated running. But I had had surgery on my knee and I wanted to play softball. Was I thinking “oh I wish I could walk 314 miles”? Heck no. I was thinking “I’m a catcher and I need to run to cover 1st base”. That’s what got me out the door and at that time it was just “I will keep at this until I can run to the end of the block without stopping”. That was a big ole 3/10 of a mile. But I wanted to play softball and I found a tiny little thing I could say “I will” to and then another etc. There are other little words like “try” and “have to” that we can discuss another time but this is a good lesson for today.
I am grateful I pulled out of the two fall races. Although I could “wish” i were doing them, I am taking action by getting more sleep, eating better and helping my back heal. That is action even if it’s a different kind of action.

Daily Gratitude

Daily Gratitude: This is an interesting thought. I know it means that we have to pick something “good” to focus on when we’re feeling down. And I totally agree. But you can also look at it another way – the more you focus on what’s wrong, the worse things become. They become worse because they cause more fear and worry. You’re probably saying something like “this is BS. My loved one is in the hospital dying. How could my focusing on them make things worse?” It’s not the focusing on them that makes it worse. It’s the focusing on the fear you have they will die or that they will suffer more. What is that doing to your already exhausted system? It’s generating more fight or flight response’s which floods your system with the stress chemicals we’ve been talking about. Try to focus on all the good times you had and all the good that person did in their lifetime. Focus on the love, not the absence of it that you’ll be experiencing soon. This has been an extreme example but it fits with anything that you think is going wrong. Remember – and use- my mantra: everything always works out for me!
I am grateful that even though I am doubting my writing ability, I continue to work at it

Your ROCK

In Vol State you constantly heard about “reaching the rock”. So, what’s so special about a rock, for crying out loud?

Yes, it’s a location on top of a mountain and it signifies that we have completed the 314 mile race in time! It symbolizes success.

However, you don’t have to be in Georgia to have your own rock.

Each of us has a rock (and many have more than one). It doesn’t matter how “spectacular” that rock is, what matters is that it’s YOUR ROCK.

For example, there’s a Team Terrie member who’s recently had a knee replacement. For now, her “rock” could be just making it through the day without pain or with less pain. Then in a few weeks, it might be having increased range of motion, then walking further etc.

Your ROCK is always moving. Once you’ve reached your current rock, you create another one.

No one’s rock is harder than another’s. A rock is something hard, right? And “hard” is something that is taking lots of effort for you to achieve. What’s hard for me is easy for others and vice versa.

It doesn’t matter. it’s YOUR ROCK and you should cherish each rock in your rock garden! Once you reach your rock, pick it up, savor it for awhile, then move it to the other side of the garden – the rock altar!

Now, it’s time to aim for another rock. You decide what your next “climb” will be. Make your plans, do any training you need and then set out to “summit” this next rock!

We all are Rock Stars!
